Hey friends! I'm still fighting back the germs (yuk!) but have a few snaps of my long awaited 'Arielle' skirt by Tilly & the Buttons in a stretch black denim, a last minute make for our recent holiday but an instant wardrobe staple! Hurrah!
I picked up the stretch denim locally, it's a medium weight so not too bulky to pose a problem with the darts, and has about 4% spandex if I remember rightly. I promise it really is black as it looks decidedly more navy in the pictures! Tilly recommends a touch of stretch on the pattern envelope and I liked the idea of something put together but comfortable and boy is it just that.
I decided early on that I wanted to try to keep a ready to wear denim feel to this skirt which is why I added some contrast gold topstitching (including at the side seams) and brass snaps instead of buttons. I love the way it's come together; it's really wearable, going with just about everything.
(Germs = decapitated shots. No apologies, the world just doesn't need to see that!)
The construction was super easy and quick (lucky as I made it the afternoon before we left!) and fitting was straightforward. I needed to take in the side seams a little to compensate for the stretch content and straightened out the fairly dramatic hip curve. In hindsight I may have over fitted a touch as there is some horizontal wrinkling which gets worse with wear but do I really care? ...not a bean! This skirt is so comfortable I wore it all weekend. Here's a cheeky impromptu action shot to prove it (worn with my striped Nettie bodysuit). Both can be found in the SEWN pattern store.
I've made the best of my sofa time by taking the plunge with my first hand knit cardi project. With any luck I'll soon be back to normal. Until then...
