Hello friends! This blog is a space for me to collate inspiration, document projects and share in my quest for a wearable handmade wardrobe. An exciting fresh start for the brand new year!
I thought I'd kick off the proceedings with a little introduction post. So without further ado, my name is Marie and I like to sew.
I learnt as a child on a vintage Frister Rossmann. My mother (pictured below centre in the 1960's), a phenomenal sewist who's worked as a tailor, knitter and panto costumier, introduced me to all manner of crafts growing up. I've tried all sorts -crochet, cross stitch, quilting even stained glass but dressmaking has always remained my primary interest which I went on to study.
I'm an avid blog reader. My 'blog roll' is bursting with inspiration from brilliant sewing blogs. The online sewing community is such a great resource and this pattern store (as well as keeping my hoarding in check) is my small contribution to supporting some of it's incredible talent. Each and every contemporary pattern arriving over the next few months has been created by an independent designer and I love that every purchase benefits directly someone who's name and face I know.
So what's in store for 2016...? I'd like to move towards a 100% handmade wardrobe. I plan to concentrate my efforts on wardrobe staples and really focus on the wearability of each garment I make. Skills wise I plan to continue my foray into lingerie and knitting and delve into the world of jeans (I cannot wait for the arrival of the 'Ginger Skinny Jeans' by Heather at Closet Case Patterns).
So tell me, what are your sewing plans for the new year? ...Any juicy resolutions or new skills? Leave me a comment below!
x Happy Sewing!
